Al Thumama Stadium

Surespan is proud to have played a role in the construction of the Al Thumama Stadium, a key venue for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Located near Hamad International Airport, the stadium stands as a testament to modern architecture and innovation, with its design inspired by the traditional taqiyah hat, a symbol of cultural significance in the Middle East.

This architectural marvel, conceived by the Chief Architect of the Arab Engineering Bureau, Ibrahim Jaidah, is complemented by a 50,000 m² recreational area, enhancing the venue’s appeal and functionality.

The stadium, with a seating capacity of 44,400, was brought to life through a joint venture between Al Jaber Engineering of Qatar and Tekfen Construction of Turkey, highlighting international collaboration in its creation.

In this monumental project, Surespan was entrusted with supplying bespoke access solutions aligned with the stadium’s innovative design and operational requirements. We provided our SRHE/TB/50 Aluminium, thermally broken, single leaf, electrically operated roof access hatches, meticulously designed to fit a structural opening of 4470 x 2000mm, with hinging on the longer side. These state-of-the-art access hatches feature a double-skinned Aluminium lid operated by synchronised 24v DC actuators, ensuring smooth and reliable functionality. Engineered to open to approximately 85 degrees, they offer optimal headroom clearance, thereby marrying functionality with safety considerations.

Our involvement in the Al Thumama Stadium project underscores Surespan’s commitment to delivering high-quality, engineered access solutions tailored to each project’s unique needs. The precision and care with which these roof access hatches were designed and manufactured reflect our dedication to excellence and innovation in the access products industry. By providing aesthetically pleasing and highly functional solutions, we contribute to the infrastructure’s overall efficiency and safety, ensuring that such iconic venues meet the highest standards of design and operation.

This case study exemplifies Surespan’s ability to meet the demands of significant, high-profile projects through bespoke engineering and manufacturing. It highlights our expertise in creating access products that enhance major sports venues’ architectural integrity and operational capabilities, reinforcing our position as a leader in the industry. Through the Al Thumama Stadium project, Surespan has demonstrated its ability to tackle challenges and deliver superior access solutions, contributing to the legacy of one of the world’s most anticipated sporting events.
