Grand Egyptian Museum

Surespan contributed to the Grand Egyptian Museum, set to be the world's largest archaeological museum, showcasing over 100,000 artefacts including the entire King Tutankhamun collection.

Covering history from pre-historic times to the Greek and Roman periods, it is located 1.2 miles from the Giza Pyramids and is a key component of the Giza 2030 master plan. The construction is a joint venture between Belgium’s Besix Group and Egypt’s Orascom Construction.

In this monumental project, Surespan was approached by Besix and Orascom for its expertise and substantial portfolio in the Middle East to design and manufacture a range of access products tailored to the museum’s unique requirements. These included SAC Flush Floor Hatches, stainless steel Roof Hatches, and Access Panels specifically designed for wall and ceiling installation.

Surespan delivered 20 SAC FR120 fire-rated flush floor hatches and 15 stainless steel SRH Roof Hatches, alongside access panels measuring 600×1000, which were 2-hour fire-rated and constructed from grade 304 stainless steel. These panels were designed to accommodate a 10mm thick stone or tile finish, ensuring a seamless integration with the museum’s sophisticated interior design. The inclusion of a 25mm wide concealed beaded frame further enhanced the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the panels.

These products, characterised by their durability, functionality, and design precision, exemplify Surespan’s commitment to excellence and innovation in the field of access solutions. The SAC Flush Floor Hatches and stainless steel Roof Hatches were specifically engineered to meet the museum’s operational requirements, ensuring safe and efficient access for maintenance and security purposes. Moreover, the bespoke access panels were designed to blend effortlessly with the museum’s architectural aesthetics, providing essential access without compromising the integrity of the museum’s design.

Surespan’s involvement in the Grand Egyptian Museum project underscores its capability to meet the demands of high-profile, complex developments, offering customised, high-quality access solutions. Through this project, Surespan has once again demonstrated its expertise in delivering products that combine aesthetics, performance, and safety, contributing significantly to the preservation and display of Egypt’s rich heritage. This case study exemplifies Surespan’s position as a leader in the access products industry, showcasing its ability to contribute to the legacy of landmark projects around the world.
