Hong Kong Airport

Surespan was instrumental in the enhancement of the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), located on Chek Lap Kok Island, a key international gateway for Hong Kong.

Since its inauguration in 1998, HKIA has become an essential hub, connecting Hong Kong to around 220 global destinations via 120 airlines and significantly contributing to the region’s aviation sector with its extensive passenger and cargo handling capabilities.

In line with the airport’s ongoing expansion and the need for high standards of operational excellence, Surespan supplied a comprehensive range of roof hatches, meticulously designed to meet the unique demands of this bustling airport environment.

The selection included the Surespan SRHP/50/TB37 Roof Hatch in three sizes: 1000 x 1000mm, 900 x 900mm, and 950 x 950mm. Key features of these hatches include a 300mm upstand and LO1, LO2, and LO4 locking mechanisms, providing secure access to the airport’s rooftop areas.

The hatches are insulated with either Kooltherm or Kingspan material, known for its superior thermal properties. Additionally, each hatch is equipped with an external kerb liner, a thermally broken lid and upstand for enhanced durability, and a gas spring assisted opening to 85°, alongside a double unbroken EPDM seal for optimal weather resistance.

Further emphasising Surespan’s dedication to safety and compliance, we also supplied the Surespan SRH/TB/FR120 Fire Rated Roof Hatch, measuring 600 x 600mm, which incorporates mineral wool insulation to achieve optimal thermal efficiency. This hatch boasts a fire resistance rating of up to 240 minutes according to EN 1634-4 standards and holds UL-EU certification for up to 4 hours of fire resistance. Mirroring the design ethos of its counterparts, it features a thermally broken lid and upstand, an external kerb liner, and a double unbroken EPDM seal to ensure long-lasting performance and safety.

Through the provision of these tailored roof hatches, Surespan has significantly contributed to the infrastructure and safety standards of the Hong Kong International Airport, showcasing its expertise in delivering high-quality, durable access solutions for complex, high-traffic environments.

All hatches are treated with PVDF coating in RAL 9007 externally and RAL 9010 internally, ensuring a durable and aesthetically pleasing finish that complements the architectural integrity of HKIA.

Through the provision of these bespoke roof hatches, Surespan has significantly contributed to the infrastructural development and safety standards of Hong Kong International Airport. This project exemplifies Surespan’s expertise in delivering custom access solutions that meet the exacting requirements of complex, high-traffic environments, reinforcing our position as a leader in the industry and a key partner in global aviation projects.
