Landsbankinn

Surespan had the honour of contributing to the construction of the new headquarters for Landsbankinn, Iceland's largest bank, a project deeply inspired by the nation's majestic natural landscape.

The building, a testament to modern architectural innovation and respect for nature, features a facade composed of glass and heavy volcanic basalt stone, mirroring the rugged Icelandic terrain.

Weighing approximately 400kg per square meter, the basalt cladding demanded an extraordinary construction approach to ensure its secure installation.

Reflecting Iceland’s topography, the building’s distinctive pentagonal floor plan and use of natural materials seamlessly integrate it into the surrounding environment. Since 2022, it has offered a bright and modern workspace for around 1,000 employees.

For this remarkable project, Surespan supplied advanced smoke ventilation and roof access solutions specifically designed to enhance the building’s safety and functionality. Our contribution included several SRHGE/AOV 140° Glazed Automatic Smoke Vents in sizes 1050 x 1050mm and 2200 x 1400mm alongside an extended array of SRHP-AOV Smoke Vents with Roof Access 140° measuring 1050 x 1050mm.

These units, equipped with a 24V DC actuator and electro-magnetic locking, ensure efficient smoke ventilation in the event of a fire, contributing to the building’s comprehensive safety strategy. The 300mm upstand and mineral wool insulation enhances the thermal performance and durability of the installation.

All supplied hatches feature a polyester powder coating in RAL 7030 internally and RAL 7022 externally, chosen for its resilience and aesthetic compatibility with the building’s design. Heavy-duty ZIP7 loft ladders with a telescopic handrail were also provided to complement these installations, ensuring safe and convenient access to roof areas for maintenance purposes.

The control systems for these installations, including the SP1185/A Control Panels and SP1320-C Surespan 24-AL-13 AOV 24V-8A Control Boxes, incorporate a 24V DC transformer and battery back-up, guaranteeing uninterrupted operation even in power outages. Additionally, SP1322-C Fire switches and SP1166 Fireman’s key switches were integrated, providing an essential interface for emergency services.

Surespan’s involvement in the Landsbankinn headquarters project highlights our commitment to delivering bespoke access and safety solutions that meet our clients’ specific requirements.

By providing innovative and reliable products, we have contributed to creating a workspace that embodies the essence of Iceland’s natural beauty and adheres to the highest standards of safety and functionality. This project is a testament to Surespan’s expertise in enhancing the safety and efficiency of modern architectural landmarks.
