Mega Reservoir Project

Surespan was entrusted with the significant responsibility of producing over 500 access hatches for the esteemed Kahramaa Water Security Mega Reservoirs Project. This initiative marks a landmark achievement in water storage, featuring a reservoir with a staggering capacity of 436,633.45 cubic metres.

This reservoir has been recognised by the Guinness World Records as the largest drinking water storage tank globally. Each site within this project is designed to host up to nine reservoirs, with each reservoir setting the benchmark as the largest of its kind in terms of capacity and design.

In our commitment to excellence and precision, we meticulously crafted each access hatch to meet the specific needs of this monumental project. Our range included SAC flush hatches, designed to withstand loadings of 2.5 kN/m², available in dimensions spanning from 3 feet 3 inches by 3 feet 3 inches up to 9 feet 10 inches by 9 feet 10 inches.

Additionally, we provided double leaf access hatches across the same size range, ensuring versatility and robustness in our offerings.

Each hatch is equipped with an innovative 3-position “auto, open, close” stay-put key switch, which facilitates ease of operation and enhances safety. This system is unified by a common key pattern across all units, streamlining access and security.

To further ensure the safety of personnel, we incorporated a retractable safety grid in each hatch. This feature significantly reduces the risk of accidents, providing peace of mind to both operators and maintenance teams.

Aesthetically, we chose an anodised (natural) aluminium finish for our hatches, marrying durability with visual appeal. This finish not only enhances the hatch’s resistance to environmental factors but also ensures it seamlessly integrates with the reservoir’s design, maintaining the aesthetic integrity of the structure.

The inclusion of limit switches in our design underscores our attention to detail and dedication to operational safety. These switches provide critical feedback on the hatch position, ensuring that it is safely secured, whether in an open or closed state.

Surespan’s involvement in the Kahramaa Water Security Mega Reservoirs Project exemplifies our expertise in manufacturing access solutions that meet the highest standards of safety, functionality, and design.

Our contribution to this world-class infrastructure project underscores our commitment to excellence and our capability to meet the demands of large-scale, high-profile projects.
