Northwell Health

Surespan played an integral role in the construction of a new Medical Building for Northwell Health Provider in New York, USA, by designing and manufacturing three bespoke large sliding roof hatches for 2846 Partners LLC.

Northwell Health, the largest healthcare provider in New York, boasts an extensive network comprising 21 hospitals and 900 outpatient facilities across NYC, Long Island, and Westchester. With a dedicated workforce of 85,000, including 18,900 nurses and 4,900 employed doctors, Northwell Health is at the forefront of transforming healthcare.

The project required innovative solutions to facilitate the easy installation and removal of large medical equipment through the building’s roof. Surespan met this challenge by creating sliding roof hatches with a structural opening of 9′-0″ x 9′-0″ (2743 x 2743mm).

Each hatch is equipped with a 230v geared motor, enabling smooth operation along fixed, external rails. The design incorporates wheel rail extensions with adjustable legs, ensuring seamless connectivity with the roof and base frame. Additionally, the hatches are finished in a durable polyester powder coating, designed to withstand the rigours of a medical environment.

A key feature of these hatches is their thermally broken design with double seals, ensuring a weathertight seal against the elements. The inclusion of CFC and HCFC-free Polyisocyanurate insulation exemplifies Surespan’s commitment to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. The hatches are also designed for ease of transport, supplied in sections with comprehensive re-assembly instructions, facilitating straightforward installation on site.

These sliding roof hatches are not only functional but are engineered to meet the highest standards of performance and durability. The polyester powder-coated finish ensures longevity, while the key switch operation provides an added layer of security and control.
