Collaborating closely with Porsche and Clegg Construction, a contractor known for delivering exceptional public and private sector projects, Surespan rose to the occasion by designing, manufacturing, and installing a series of bespoke access hatches.
These innovative hatches feature a dual-pane system where one leaf is fixed and the other slides over, providing an extensive opening for maintenance, presentation, and emergency access. Operated by 230v geared motors and equipped with 35.5mm sealed double glazing, these units ensure easy access and maintain thermal efficiency with a U-value of 1.5 W/m²K. The integration of CFC and HCFC-free insulation, along with custom-made flashing for the upstand, ensures seamless compatibility with exterior roof insulation, emphasising the hatches’ advanced design with thermally broken extruded sections.
Accompanying the roof hatches, Surespan supplied an assortment of SRHGE/AOV140 thermally broken glazed single-leaf smoke ventilators, each designed to a structural opening of 1050 x 1100mm. Certified to EN12101-2, these ventilators provide 1m² of free airflow, adhering to fire safety regulations. Supported by heavy-duty stainless steel axle pins and featuring double unbroken EPDM seals, the units are tailored for durability and weather resistance. The inclusion of purpose-made flashings enables a flush integration with the building’s exterior insulation.
Control systems for these installations included the SLHE/CON1 control panel for the roof hatch motors and gearboxes and the SP1182CON140A control panel for the 140° hatch, both complete with 24v DC transformers, battery backups, and comprehensive operating mechanisms. Additionally, an array of Dome AOV Polycarbonate smoke release ventilators was provided, designed to enhance natural light entry while ensuring smoke ventilation compliance. They have a structural opening of 1500 x 1500mm and a significant free airflow capacity.
