Sydney Light Rail

Surespan was honoured to contribute to enhancing the Sydney Light Rail network, a crucial component of the city's public transportation infrastructure.

Serving Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, the light rail system encompasses three passenger routes: the L1 Dulwich Hill Line, the L2 Randwick Line, and the L3 Kingsford Line.

With 42 stations and extending over 24.7 km (15.3 mi), it stands as the second-largest light rail network in Australia, after Melbourne’s Yarra Trams. Managed by Transport for NSW and operated daily by Transdev, the network saw 13.3 million passenger journeys in 2020, highlighting its importance in facilitating urban mobility.

Understanding the critical needs of such a pivotal transport system, Surespan was tasked with supplying three bespoke Recessed Floor Hatches. These hatches were specifically designed to meet the unique requirements of the Sydney Light Rail, ensuring seamless integration and operational efficiency. The dimensions of the supplied floor hatches were 14ft 11″ x 3ft 11″, 14ft 9″ x 10″, and 6ft 2″ x 5ft 3″. Given their substantial sizes, hydraulic operation was essential to facilitate easy and safe access.

The HIAC Recessed Floor Hatches provided by Surespan were engineered to the highest standards, reflecting our commitment to delivering superior access solutions. The hydraulic operation of these hatches was a key feature, designed to ensure that they could be operated smoothly and efficiently, reducing the effort required for access and enhancing safety for maintenance teams and personnel.

This project exemplifies Surespan’s ability to address the specific needs of large-scale public infrastructure projects, delivering customised, high-quality access solutions. Our engagement with the Sydney Light Rail network underscores our expertise in producing engineered products that meet and exceed urban transportation systems’ demands.

Through this initiative, we have once again demonstrated our capability to contribute significantly to developing and maintaining critical public transport networks, reinforcing our position as a leading supplier in the access products industry.
