The initiative was part of a comprehensive Macmillan Environmental Improvement plan encompassing the redesign of existing facilities alongside mechanical and electrical installations, site works, and alterations. In addition to the building works, external surfacing and landscape efforts were undertaken to create a more inviting entrance for building users, further enhancing the overall patient experience.
For the specialist chemotherapy unit in Dundonald, we supplied an extended array of thermally broken and insulated smoke ventilators, each measuring 1500 x 1500mm and providing a geometric-free area of 1.47m². These units are rigorously tested, certified, and CE Marked according to EN12101-2 standards, ensuring compliance and safety.
Additionally, our contribution included a bespoke roof access hatch system, complete with fixed external handholds for safe access, internal and external locking mechanisms, and a retractable ZIP ladder integrated with a ceiling trap door. This system is designed to facilitate easy and secure access to rooftop areas for maintenance purposes. Moreover, an electrically operated retractable ladder was provided for plant room access, featuring a push-button operation for automatic opening, showcasing our commitment to innovation and user convenience.
Through this project, Surespan has once again highlighted our ability to deliver bespoke access and ventilation solutions that meet the specific needs of complex healthcare facilities. Our products play a crucial role in ensuring the functionality, safety, and compliance of the new Chemotherapy and Macmillan Cancer Support Centre at the Ulster Hospital, contributing to the facility’s mission to provide exceptional patient care.
