Khalifa International Stadium

Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar, stands as a beacon of the country's sporting excellence and architectural innovation.

Opened in 1976 and located approximately 10 kilometres west of central Doha, this iconic stadium has played a pivotal role in Qatar’s sports infrastructure, boasting a capacity of 45,857 spectators.

As the first venue completed for the FIFA 2022 World Cup, the Khalifa International Stadium not only hosted international sports events but also symbolised Qatar’s readiness and ambition on the global stage.

Renowned for its distinctive double arches that support both the roof and lighting systems, the stadium is a marvel of engineering and design. These arches are not just structural elements but also serve as symbols of the stadium’s architectural heritage. Throughout its history, the stadium has seen several renovations, with the most recent in 2017 preparing it for the world stage of the FIFA 2022 World Cup. These upgrades were carefully integrated to blend Qatar’s rich cultural heritage with futuristic aspirations, showcasing a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and respect for the past.

Within the context of this prestigious venue, Surespan played a crucial role by supplying an extended array of SRHP roof hatches, each measuring 1000 x 1000mm. These hatches were finished with a polyester powder coating in RAL7004, ensuring durability and aesthetic compatibility with the stadium’s design. Equipped with L01, L02, and L04 locking mechanisms and featuring a 300mm upstand, the hatches provided secure and easy access, essential for the maintenance and operation of such a significant facility.

This contribution to the Khalifa International Stadium project underscores Surespan’s ability to deliver high-quality access solutions that meet the specific needs of large-scale sports venues. By integrating seamlessly with the stadium’s infrastructure, these roof hatches enhance both the functionality and safety of the venue, supporting its legacy as a landmark of sporting excellence and architectural beauty. Surespan’s involvement in such a key project highlights our commitment to excellence and our capacity to contribute to the development of world-class sports infrastructure, reflecting the aspirations and achievements of the regions we serve.
